Michael William Collins was born on May 12th 1986. His educational career began as a preschooler in 1990 in Arthur, IL and continued on until his graduation from A.H.S. in May of 2004. Michael was active in many sports including basketball, track and football starting as a fifth grader and continuing throughout high school. Michael was extremely friendly and fun to be around. He kept his grades up due to his hard work as he was exceedingly motivated in all aspects of life. Michael went on to further his education by attending Eastern Illinois University in the fall of 2004. He graduated from E.I.U. in the spring of 2009 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.
Michael enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies including: four-wheeling, camping, boating, swimming, sky diving, kayaking and dancing. He simply enjoyed living life with his many friends and family.
On March 19th 2010 Michael accidentally drown while swimming in a pool in Houston, Texas. Although Michael has gone on to Heaven this scholarship was established in his memory by his family and many close friends. Due to such generous donations this scholarship continues to grow in hopes that Michael’s memory will live on at A.H.S for many years to come. We, the family, hope that the recipient realizes what an honor it is to be selected to receive Michael’s scholarship. A copy of a CD of Michael’s life will be included with the scholarship. It is our hope that he or she will watch the CD and learn who Michael was and continue to share in our memory of our outstanding son, brother, fiancée and friend. We ask that you, as the applicant, possess many of the same characteristics as Michael, which include a friendly outgoing nature, respectful attitude, self-motivation, good sportsmanship, positivity, exceptional leadership skills and an admirable work ethic that carries over into your college GPA.
Thank you in advance for your interest in the Michael William Collins Memorial Scholarship.
